A message from our Principal:
Hello, my name is Hillary Greer and I am the very proud Principal of Westdale Middle School. I first came to Westdale Middle in 2008 and never left. Over the years, I have served as a Teacher, Dean, Assistant Principal, and now Principal.
Westdale Middle School is a special place where students and staff come from not only Baton Rouge, but from all over the world. Westdale Middle School is a traditional middle school that hosts a variety of special programs. Westdale is home to a Foreign Language Immersion Program, a Gifted and Talented Program, a Great Scholars Program, and various programs for Exceptional Students. Despite the diversity of our programs, we pride ourselves on being one school where all of these people come together to make up our Hawk Nation.
As we begin the 2020-2021 school year under unusual circumstances, we will be exploring a common theme throughout the year. This year we will be exploring "what it means to be a global citizen." The theme will be woven throughout our classes during the year. As a faculty and staff, we are committed to educating all of our students to be contributing members of a global society. To achieve this goal we have added programs such as Aquaponics and Global Studies as well as expanded our partnership with Humanities Amped.
Our Positive Behavior program has been adjusted to align with our global theme. Students will be asked to exhibit the qualities of a Westdale Hawk. The values of the HAWKS include H-Honesty, A-Acceptance, W-Worth, K-Kindness, and S-Service. We will include school-wide and classroom level service projects throughout the year.
In closing, I would like to say that despite the unusual circumstances surrounding the school year, I remain positive and optimistic. We are implementing new programs and expanding our successful programs to make 2020-2021 a great year at Westdale Middle School.
